A lot of people are familiar with the long running animated series known as “South Park”. It began back in 1997 and is still producing new episodes to this day. At 26 seasons and 317 episodes, the series is pretty lengthy. Is it too long though? Do fans think it should have ended already?
South Park is known for its offensive humor, which can be majorly summed up as racism, homophobia, antisemitism, etc;. Back in the 90’s and early 2000’s, a lot of viewers enjoyed the show and found it very funny. It was more “normalized” back then to have “offensive humor”, but lately people aren’t finding it funny at all.
Many say that around season 20, they wished for the series to be canceled and come to an end. This was because people think the creators aren’t putting in as much effort as they were before. It’s also because people just don’t think the offensive humor is funny anymore. Many people from different religions especially don’t like this show because of how it depicts religious figures. Some episodes have even been banned in certain countries because of the content. In episodes “200” and “201”, they had Buddha doing drugs, and the whole series became banned in certain countries.
The audience that South Park originally had seems to be outgrowing them. Whether fans just don’t find the humor to be funny anymore or they think the series has become boring, South Park is probably on the decline. Their views in recent seasons have supposedly gone down. But, that could just be what happens when a series or show has been running for so long. People may just be tired of it.
