After being an assistant for Coach Holbrook for 6 year, Coach Engle gets to take on the role of head coach this season.
Engle has a long history in OA basketball, playing here at OA during her high school career. Engle was a 1,000 point scorer and voted 3x Hockomock League all-star. Her senior year she also was voted the Brockton Enterprise Player of the Year and won the schools first state championship for girls basketball.
Coach Engle also says ¨I was named Massachusetts Coaches’ South Sectional Player of the Year, I was on the Boston Globe and Boston Herald Super Teams, and I was named Oliver Ames Scholar-Athlete of the Year¨.
With her extensive history in basketball, Coach Engle took on the new position of head coach, and after all the encouragement from coach Holbrook, she is just about to complete her first season as head coach.
Things have been pretty busy for coach Engle, as she describes her experience this season to be challenging. She feels ¨The transition to being a head coach has been more difficult than I expected. I did not realize how much administrative work would be involved and how much work was involved behind the scenes to run an entire program¨.
With all of this going on Coach Engle also has to pull together the young team after they lost 7 seniors from the championship team last year.
Coach Engle states ¨In terms of the season, I knew we would have a lot of talent and potential, but we would be young. I initially underestimated how much experience would play a role in the start of our season and how much time it would take to gel as a team. So, our record reflects some of that learning curve¨.
Even though the team is very young, they were still able to making playoffs with help from coach Engle.
