On June 14th of 2013, a highly anticipated story-game hit the digital shelves for all gaming lovers. The game is titled The Last of Us, and takes you along the journey through an apocalyptic outbreak. The gameplay is very cinematic and may say the cut-scenes seem like an actual movie. After the original game’s release, there were four games to follow. Those being The Last of Us: Left Behind, The Last of Us Remastered, The Last of Us Part II, and The Last of Us Part I.
These games received so much praise and had such a big fanbase at the time of their release and still to this day. That’s why, on January 15th, 2023, there was a TV series released based on The Last of Us. Today, I will be reviewing the series so far and giving my personal opinions on the show as a whole.
This show is very captivating. There are scenes that have made me laugh, cry, and scream in fear. Usually I can’t sit through long episodes of certain shows because I get bored, but even with hour-long episodes I just couldn’t stop watching. The SFX makeup for the infected zombies is incredible, and at the end of certain episodes they give an insider on how they did it. The pacing of the show compared to the game is also really accurate, and I think a lot of the original fans of the game appreciate that aspect. It’s like when a book is made into a movie. You can only hope that it represents it well.
As far as the content goes, I would say it is a 10/10. The actors put so much emotion into the roles they play, and you can gradually see them all build relationships with one another as the series unfolds. Many of them go through severe heartbreak and loss, but still they try to find comfort in one another. The show also has many hidden details that you might not catch the first time you watch it, (I sure didn’t) and it’s really interesting to see. Almost like an “ah ha clever” moment.
I just hope the show continues to be amazing and somewhat accurate with the original storyline from the game. It is also interesting to see little changes they make from the game to the series. It gives the series its own flare while still being a part of the original plot.
Overall, I would highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys zombie outbreak/ apocalyptic types of series. Out of 5 stars, I would give it 5. The episodes come out weekly, and I’m desperately waiting for the next episode to air. You can stream it on HBOMax! Happy streaming!
