Winter Sports Preview

Boys Hockey

The boys hockey team is back and looking to make the playoffs this season ¨for the first time in 4 years¨ says captain Sean McCarthy. ¨I feel good about this goal considering we only lost two seniors¨ states McCarthy. The team is looking forward to their season and believes they have a good shot at playoffs. With a new coach, Jimmy Tierney who has made many improvements, McCarthy believes ¨we all have faith in him to lead us¨

Girls Basketball 

The girls Basketball team is gearing up for another great season. Senior captain Maddie Homer states ¨My expectations going into the season are to maintain the success and positive reputation OA girl’s basketball has developed over the years, especially because of our recent and exciting state championship¨. This year will be a whole new season but even though the team is very young, captain Maddie Homer still believes ¨There is a lot of talent so I see this season being extremely successful¨. Good luck to our lady tigers!

Swim & Dive

The OA swim and dive team is also preparing for a brand new season. With a new coach, team, and practice location, senior captain Sofia Belanger believes ¨There’s lots of new and exciting changes that could bring success for our season¨. Sofia also says ¨I expect it to be a transition year¨ after they lost 18 seniors. The team has a lot of new swimmers and divers, but captain Sofia is still ¨hoping we have a great season¨.

Track & Field

After an amazing cross country season this fall, the Track and Field team gets ready to ¨dominate this season¨ says captain Johanna Holmes. With the opportunity to compete at the New Balance track in Boston, Johanna believes ¨the energy resulting from such an opportunity will help us perform¨. All event groups have really come together, this year, to make a strong team. Captain Johanna states ¨Compared to other years, I think our team has a more unified and energetic atmosphere¨ that she believes will help them achieve their goal of a dominating season.

Gymnastics

The OA gymnastics team is looking forward to their season as they prepare for their first meet on December 21st. Captain Abbey DeCouto says that ¨I am looking forward to creating stronger team bonds and developing friendships to improve our team spirit¨. She thinks that the team ¨will have a stronger bond¨ and is looking forward to it. The gymnastics team has some great talent this year, and Abbey even states ¨Compared to other years, this year we have a really well-rounded team and everyone is willing to step up for others no matter the circumstance¨.
