Just yesterday November 30th Spotify Wrapped 2022 was released. Anyone who uses Spotify as their app to listen to their music got a pop up notification. This allows users to see their activity data and their personal music tastes from the year. The app even allows you to share it to social media. But why so popular?
Most people like to listen to music. It is an art form that has engaged cultures around the world to embrace themselves and new ideas. No matter the platform it is played on it is a binding factor to how we process things nowadays. So Spotify releasing a visual summary of all the user has listened to and enjoyed is extremely intriguing. The Artist that has designed the template for the data is appealing and enjoyable. The grouping of top artist and songs help give the user their own perspective on their personal preferences.
This year what made Spotify Wrapped very interesting was the song readings. They took the songs you listened to and put them into a playlist as they have over the years. But what was different was they classified your taste. For example one of them could have been the Voyager. Spotify describes this as “You expand your world through sound. You’re like a musical globetrotter. Or a musical sponge. Your call”. They also classify your moods during your morning, how you seize your day and how you embrace the night. Lastly the feature that stands out to most is the amount of minutes you spend with your top artist. They are able to give you a percentage based off how much time you listen to them.
