Late Saturday night this past weekend, an L.G.B.T.Q. nightclub known as Club Q was targeted and shot up by a man who injured at least 25 people and killed 5 others, according to the New York Times. As far as the public knows, the shooter was subdued by some of the club-goers at Club Q as they took his handheld gun from him and hit him across the head with it. This action was the result of a tremendous amount of bravery and definitely saved the lives of many at that club that night. Witnesses of this event are questioning how things like this can tragically keep happening over and over again in our lives today. The gunman has now been taken into custody and is being charged with “five counts of murder and five counts of bias-motivated crime causing bodily injury” according to the New York Times.
During this years’ World Cup Championship, a few teams wanted to show their appreciation and support for the L.G.B.T.Q. as they played. Certain teams wanted to wear armbands that stated “One Love” in support of the L.G.B.T.Q. community. This was combated by FIFA though. FIFA found out about this and put out a statement that they would most likely be yellow carding any player wearing the armband. For context, when a player gets two yellow cards, they are suspended from the game and can no longer play during it. Considering what was written in the paragraph above, this information from FIFA is truly upsetting to hear.
Many Americans are aware already, but former president Donald Trump announced that he will be running again in the presidential election of 2024. The internet went ablaze when Trump broke this news. Many people were scared and feared the things that the former president may want to do for the country going forward, if he was to win. There are claims that Trump wants to “reclaim the spotlight” and “pressure Republicans to line up behind him”, according to The Washington Post. This basically means that Trump wants Republicans to follow his lead. He is trying to get these folks in the Republican party to trust him more. He wants them to follow his lead as a president and a leader of some sort.
