The first thing to discuss in the news this week was the horrific and deadly stampede that occurred in Itaewon, South Korea. On October 29th, at least 150 people were killed due to a stampede. The event that was happening was supposedly a Halloween party and was said to be the “first large-scale partying for the holiday since the pandemic began” according to The Washington Post. Sources say that people started pushing and shoving one another on a very narrow street and there just wasn’t enough space for everyone. Sadly, this ended in many people losing their lives.
This next topic is a lot less heartbreaking to hear about. Recently, famous singer Rhianna has released a new song after half a decade of not producing music. The song is titled, “Lift Me Up” and people seem to be torn. There has been a mix of good and bad feedback from fans on this song. It was released on October 28th and as of right now, it is steadily climbing the music charts. Despite what many may think, this song is doing fairly well on the music charts right now.
Lastly, we have a story that seems a bit crazy. Billionaire Elon Musk, owner of the highly popular social media app ‘Twitter’, wants to have verified creators pay about $20 a month to keep the blue check mark next to their username. It’s acting like a subscription that streaming services would make you pay monthly, except, that’s a pretty expensive amount to pay for a small blue tick.
