There are still a lot of questions up in the air regarding Senior prom, which is June 2nd at the Indian Pond in Kingston. Nothing is completely set in stone, so students are eager to receive more information about price, guests, time, etc. Despite this, many students are still very excited to dress up with their friends and have a good time dancing, singing, and eating.
A key part of prom is definitely fashion. Some people will go as far to spend $600 or more on a dress (I am guilty), but others may go for a something $200 or less. No matter the price, everyone should feel comfortable and confident in what they wear. In terms of color and style, to each their own. It seems that the most common prom dress colors are blue, red, and emerald green, which is definitely my favorite. I love prom because the options are endless, and a lot of the time, no two people share the same dress. Color coordination is pretty easy for the boys because they can just buy a tie that matches the dress of their date.
A hit or miss part of the prom process is going to pick out a dress because although it is stressful, it can be rewarding if you find a dress that you absolutely love. Parents can be annoying when it comes to trying pieces on, but we know they are just trying to help. I would recommend bringing a friend with you just in case you need help trying things on, or if you want honest advice that your parents may be afraid to say. A popular place in Massachusetts where people shop for their dresses is Alexandria´s in Fall River; it seems like 98% of people went there to get their dress. All in all, you should feel like a princess while trying on different options because this is your only senior prom!
Boys have it easier than girls because they can just rent a tux and call it a day. Overall, I do not think they care about prom as much as girls do.
Another essential part of a prom look is jewelry, but you cannot go too overboard, or else it will take away from the rest of the look. A simple necklace and earrings will do the trick, or even a bracelet that matches your dress. On top of jewelry is hair, makeup, nails, and shoes. If you want to make beautiful nails possible, then you may check out this safe manicure with HEMA-free polish. There are so many choices to choose from, and frankly, it feels like a game of dress up.
Some girls go all out for prom and they get their hair and makeup professionally done. For example, I remember my older sister getting ready for her senior prom back in 2017, and it took her over five hours to complete her look. Others go for a more simple look because they know their hair and makeup will be ruined before the night is even over. It all depends on the person. Most looks that I have seen tend to go for an eye look that matches their dress along with fake eyelashes, some highlighter, and lipstick for a finishing touch.
Hair styles for prom change every year. Some of the styles include all down, half-up half-down, high ponytail, clipped hair, wavy, straight, curly, etc. Most girls tend to add a hair piece to add to the look as well.
Shoes are essential, but they are not as important as the dress. A trend I have seen a lot is girls wearing sneakers to prom because it is more comfortable than heels, especially while dancing. The people who choose to wear heals typically go for something that matches their dress (silver, gold, black), but everyone´s shoes usually end up off by the end of the night regardless.
A large part of the process is assembling an outfit, but it should not be too stressful. Remember to have fun and enjoy the time you spend putting everything together because you will miss it after your graduate; soak in all the memories now!
