A poem by sophomore Chacur Ford
BLACK LIVES MATTER. x3
i say it over and over again
ppl think cuz im brownskin and got dreads on my head,
im gunna pick up a gun,
and fill a person wit led,
but thats not the case.
gettin watched, hawked, stalked just because of my race.
walk ina store
head turned
think im robbin the place,
at a disadvantage already but im cravin my way.
this
its crazy how they look and just stare.
they look in despair
way im treated wanna leave disappear
i aint choose to be black,
thats just how i appear,
i dont like the police,
them ppl i fear
killin my ppl
at some point, we gunna be rare.
labeled as crooks,
how we look
man this stuff isnt fair.
askin god why ppl racist hope he answers my prayer.
are they gon step on my neck, or take out a gun out and shoot for no reason,
im a angel inside
but they look at me as a demon.
yes im black,
but dont profile,
that be gettin me heated.
dont matter if u black, asian, white, puerto rican, we gotta come together love,
and have that process repeating.
(pause)
i aint done yet
yall jus needed that moment of silence.
for the innocent ppl dead frm police brutality violence.
its chacur on the mic and i hope yall hearin my message. i aint tryna be annoying this aint no history lesson.
i just hope yu understand,
dont care if u frm africa or japan,
or if u female or a man.
in reality we the same, treat each other all equally fair.
and i know you know the saying dont judge a book by its cover. instead of makin fun of each other, we should face the world head on man lets do this together.
and if ur goin thru pain, dont worry, life is gunna get better. so keep yo head up, cuz after the rain its always good weather.
