Whether you watch football or not, you have to admit that you turned on the Superbowl to watch the halftime show. The halftime show is arguably one of the greatest moments on television all year, and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love Snoop Dog?
This year, the halftime show featured some artists who were popular in both the 90s and 2000s. These artists included Dr. Dre, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dog, and Mary J. Bilge. The show opened with “California Love” and “Still Dre” which was like a rush of nostalgia, especially for those who appreciate old rap and hip hop. Dr. Dre was able to celebrate 3 decades of hip hop on Sunday night. Another highlight of the night is that special guest star, 50 Cent, also took us back to the 2000s by performing “In Da Club”. He re-enacted the music video to the song on stage, and the audience loved it. I personally enjoyed it because I associate this song with good memories from my childhood. Eminem performed “Lose Yourself” and Mary J. Bilge performed her two hits “Family Affair” and “No More Drama”. I personally did not recognize the songs sung by Bilge, but I know many people watching appreciated them. In terms of controversy, a moment that everyone is still talking about is when Eminem took a knee and held his head before singing “Lose Yourself”. Many say he took a knee to draw attention to racial injustice and police brutality. This halftime show will be hard to forget, and if you haven’t had the chance to watch it, you definitely should! The performances were filled with energy and the artists were rocking it in their outfits of the night.
Overall, the artists did not disappoint , and everyone had a good time; Except maybe the Bengal fans. It was nice to take a step down memory lane to appreciate the music that shaped the industry into what it is today.
