Hall Day is a tradition at Oliver Ames High School and it allows students and faculty to come together around the holiday season. Student council and class advisors have been working hard to make this hall day the best one yet, and students along with staff are excited to see what has been in the making over the past month.

Kristen Shea, the class advisor for the Senior class states “the planning is going very well, and everyone is excited to be back and eager to get going. The students and advisors, including myself now know what to expect after so many years of participating in hall day. As of now, the senior class and I are in the process of building the 3D structures.”
Although this year’s spirit week and hall day look a little different compared to past years, everybody is thrilled that we are able to continue with Oliver Ames’ tradition. The planning started out rough because not a lot of students were showing up to help plan, but that quickly changed.
“The planning has been going really well,” Kate Truong, a member of the Senior student council expresses. “We have been preparing all of the handmade decorations ahead of time, which is a lot of what we have been doing after school. Lots of people have been contributing and it looks like it will be really well put together on the day of!”
Hall day for each grade seems to be going very well, and everyone is excited to see the finished results. In addition to hall day, this week consists of spirit week and our yearly pep rally! The themes for this week are USA day, tropical day, and school colors. Show your school spirit by participating! If spirit week is not your thing, you can always show your school pride during the pep rally, which will be held on the half day Wednesday. Students will report to D and E block, followed by an extended advisory. After the long advisory, students will gather outside around 10:15am for the pep rally where games will be played, the marching band will perform, and a kickoff for the powderpuff game will be held.
Freshman Anastasia Athienties expresses “I am really excited for the hall day, spirit week and the pep rally.’ She adds “though we had spirit week at the middle school, hall day and the pep rally are completely new things. I feel slightly unprepared for it all, but super excited!”
Most of the freshmen and even sophomores have never experienced these traditional high school events because of the pandemic and quarantine, but things are different this year. The underclassmen will now be able to walk through the decorated halls, dress up for spirit week, and attend the Thanksgiving pep rally. Everyone has been looking forward to this week all year, and it is finally here, so have fun!
As displayed above, there are many fun events planned for this week, so make sure to get into your school spirit. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to the Daily Olivian or student council. Enjoy the three day week and Thanksgiving break!
