With both OA soccer teams having near perfect regular season records, it’s no surprise that they both made it to the first round of playoffs, but did they both make it through? Before you continue reading, I want to share with you the story behind the ownership of the Etihad Stadium if you are really interested about the soccer history. If a new stadium or sporting venue is being constructed, Tiered seating refurbishment solutions may be added to provide comfortable seating to the fans.
We start with the boys soccer team, coached by John Barata and captained by Mathias Taylor and Michael Haikal. Their game was home on Saturday at 4:30 against Shepard’s Hill, affectionately named Shepard’s Pie by the OA fan section. They put up a good fight for a town no one has ever heard of, but not good enough. The OA boys managed to pull off a 2-1 victory after an aggressive game. Shepard’s Hill came looking for a fight and OA was willing to fight back. Captain Mathias Taylor says “Given that most of us were nervous, we didn’t play our brand of soccer that we normally play. We gave into the opposing teams style of play. Thankfully, we didn’t suffer in the end because of it, but many times we were almost punished for it.” Taylor is referencing the fact that the Shepard’s Hill team was playing dirty and they stooped to their level, almost resulting in advantageous calls from the ref for the other team.
Speaking of advantageous calls, the ref made a call in the first half that resulted in an easy goal for OA. A foul was made by one of the opposing team’s players in the box, resulting in a PK taken by Captain Michael Haikal. This made the score 2-0 at the half, which is debated as the easiest lead to blow in soccer.
Shepards Hill came back with high hopes after the second half, resulting in their first goal quickly. Tensions began to rise on the field and the crowd could feel it in the stands. Shepard’s Hill now had that dangerous momentum and many were worried about a comeback. Luckily, a third goal was scored by OA. Yet, the ref made a call that sent the crowd into a fury. The ball was clearly over the line, hitting the side netting of the goal (the netting movement could be seen by the fans indicating that it had indeed crossed the line) but a defender promptly kicked it out. While the crowd was busy celebrating the ref called back the goal, stating that it hadn’t crossed the line.
The game soon intensified and became even more aggressive and OA was upset about the third goal being called back and Shepard’s Hill being upset about the PK that ultimately resulted in the winning goal. Meanwhile the fan section became angry and rowdy, making the last few minutes of the game intense. They managed to narrowly escape with a 2-1 victory and are looking forward to their next game. Taylor says, “Now that we all got our first playoff game nerves out of the way, I believe that in the next challenging game we will return to our brand of soccer, and play our game. We are all extremely excited and pumped for our next game against the very talented and successful team of West Springfield. We can’t wait to get out there and put our best foot forward.”

As for the girls team, they managed to keep a tighter lid on their lead. In fact, there seemed to be no problem dominating the game for the Lady Tigers. Coach Britt Sellmayer and captains Allison Evin and Lauren Sellmayer led the team to a 4-0 victory over North Middlesex.
The goals were scored by seniors Katie Gibson, Camryn O’Connor and Alexa Lane with junior Mary Cross snagging a goal for herself as well. Captain Allison Evin says “Although we came out a bit nervous once we scored we were able to dominate and pass around pretty well”.
Allison is hopeful for their next game, saying “now that the first postseason game nerves are over, I hope we can come out stronger and more confident.” She believes that “if we can connect more passes from the start and get a quick goal, then I have no doubt we’ll be able to hold a lead.”
The team is “pretty excited” for their next game and “looking forward to hopefully proving that soon the field”.
Their next game is tomorrow at 6 pm on the OA turf if you want to show your support!
