Have you ever seen a weird food combination that has made you raise an eyebrow? Better yet, do you have a favorite food combination that everyone else finds inedible?
Each week, we will focus on the food obsession of someone in our community.
Up first: senior Alex Passias, who puts together two opposing food items from Back Bay Bagel to generate one of the weirdest food combinations: a cinnamon sugar bagel with olive cream cheese.
What makes this food combination enjoyable?
“I know it seems strange, but I cannot resist the sweet and savory combination. The sugar coat on the bagel and the olives work well together. Additionally, the sugar coat on the bagel and the cream cheese compliment each other perfectly.”
When did you first think about combining these two distinct foods together?
“I used to get regular bagels with olive cream cheese. One time when I got my normal bagel order, I noticed that the cinnamon and sugar from the other bagel in the bag had rubbed off. I still ate it and it happened to taste amazing, far better than what I had been getting.”
Do you understand why others find this combination strange?
“On the surface it sounds a bit nasty, especially if you do not like olives, but it is a sweet and savory combination that you cannot go wrong with.”
