What are your plans for after high school? (college, military, gap year, etc)
Next year I am majoring in philosophy and minoring in peace and justice studies at Loyola University Maryland. Ever since I was little I always wanted to become a lawyer, I feel like it a career that would suit me very well. So my current plan is to go to law school after I graduate from undergrad. Ideally, I want to go into civil rights law because I want to help those who are facing immense discrimination and injustice in our country, and I want to be a part of the solution. Although this is my ideal plan, I am not bound to it, and would not be surprised if I change my course.
What is one regret you have from your 4 years at OA?
I have very few regrets from my 4 years at Oliver Ames because I put myself out there and did everything that I wanted to. And I also believe the mistakes that I made taught me valuable lessons that will impact my life forever. But if I could go back and have a conversation with freshman year Kate on the first day of high school, I would tell her to take her academics more seriously and not wait until the last minute to do everything, and to become more organized.
Is there any person at OA in particular you’d like to thank? If so, why?
There are many people that I would like to thank at Oliver Ames. I would like to thank my fellow classmates for making my high school experience everything that it was, and the staff at Oliver Ames for everything they do for the students. More specifically I want to thank the janitorial staff, the lunchroom staff, the secretaries, and the guidance counselors because so much of their hard work goes unnoticed and our school would not be able to run without them. And lastly, I would like to thank all of my teachers but most importantly I would like to thank; Cleary, English Schleicher, Sousa, Van Riel, Mr. Goldberg, Ms. Binney, Sweeney, Gillis, Schussler, Mrs. Williams, Ms. Campbell, Mr. Koutrous and Mr. Carey. Thank you for being not only a teacher or a coach but a friend and for making my education fun and enjoyable.
What’s your best memory from OA?
I have many amazing memories from Oliver Ames. Some top ones are obnoxiously screaming in the fan section at games and the pep rallies, hall days, cross country, ski team, DECA states, and Mrs. Sweeny’s entrepreneurship class. Even though those were all so much fun and made me so happy, my best memories of Oliver Ames were just being in school and going to class. The normalcy of the school day. That will be what I will miss most about high school.
