As COVID regulations have resulted in a need for modifications to a typical senior prom night there are now more questions than the class originally thought.
There are four main concerns for prom fashion with prom on the turf, first, heels are not allowed to protect the turf, dress trains would get even more ruined than normal, hair and makeup professionally or more casual this year? Are guys renting tuxes still?
For heels I think there are a few options, seniors can wear their heels in their pictures and switch to flats at the actual event. They can also get flatform sandals for more casual height that won’t fall into the turf the way a thin heel would. Finally, like most school events girls usually end up taking off their heels once they get there anywhere so that’s always an option in desperate moments.
As for dress trains when getting dresses altered you can ask your seamstress to add a bustle! This acts as a permeant person walking behind you holding your dress up and it’s fairly simple to do and undo so it does not have to be there for the pictures. Also if you have a poofier dress the button can be easily hidden, which will be harder for more form-fitting dresses.
With “A Night Under The Star Senior Celebration” a big question for those attending is how much does someone actually want to spend on this event. If this were a regular year all the makeup artists and hairstylists would be booked solid by now but this year? Spending extra mass amount of money to get professionally done hair and makeup seems rather not worth it for an hour and a half on the turf. Instead, people can get ready together with their friends and hopefully add to the memories that will be made at prom.
Finally, the only main concern of the boys I have talked to is whether or not tuxes are happening this year. While this is all opinion I personally think button-downs and nice shorts would look very out of place next to all those prom dresses. Jackets seem more optional but I think to attempt to keep in the prom theme dress pants, button-downs, and either a tie or bow tie should be the decision.
