The time has come and most of us are finally back in school together! While there are many differences from past years, school truly feels more normal. I think everyone would agree that the best part about returning to school is being with classmates and friends. As a senior, seeing full classes in person is giving me a form of closure. I’ve felt more productive (and a little tired) this week than in a long time. And although some school days feel long, deep inside it feels good to be busy. I’m very grateful to end the year like this.
Seniors only have about three weeks in this new system. It’ll be sad to leave OA and all of the teachers who have impacted my life. But, I’m ready for the next steps of my life and content with the schedule for the weeks ahead. My days in person so far have gone by smoothly, with everyone respecting the safety guidelines. After several days, I’ve gotten accustomed to our new system, and each day, I feel less tired than the day before. I think some students expected the transition to be difficult, but after one week, I feel thankful for the procedures created by the school. I feel both safe and engaged in every room, even the cafeteria.
To any seniors who may dislike the system or be upset about school ending, I encourage you to make the best of your last weeks of highschool. Interact with teachers and peers, and finish out this year with strong grades. Compliment each other and say “hi” in the hallways. Because those small moments can transform a school day from good to great.
