Roaming the halls of OA students all have their own ways of self-expression. A fan favorite however is one’s personal style. To honor this method of self-expression Allison Evin is being highlighted as this month’s fashionista of the month.
Allison is a junior at Oliver Ames and an active member of the community. While playing soccer and being on National Honor Society Allison’s style requires a mix of both comfort and visual appeal.
“I would describe my style as a mix between baggy and cute. I love to wear baggy jeans and sweatshirts but I always try to dress it up with some jewelry like that bracelet with photo inside or perhaps some braids. I also love matching different shades of colors together and adding some patterns, too.”
Getting into fashion is something that appears difficult to many individuals. A common struggle that many people face when branching out with their wardrobe is figuring out a style that appeals to their goals while also balancing comfort.
“I honestly didn’t get into fashion until this fall. I always hated dressing up because I hated being uncomfortable, but now that I’ve found a way to dress up and be comfortable at the same time I love dressing up.”
Another hurdle that can sometimes hinder people from spicing up their style is where to look for clothes that match their chosen aesthetic. Different styles require different stores but no matter where you search there are usually ways to make most options work.
“I get my clothes from all over. I really love jeans from Urban Outfitters & Bershka. Peppy Debs is a small business run by one girl who releases vintage & reworked items and I love her stuff as well. I also thrift a lot because it is sustainable. I always find cool jewelry there. Lastly, a lot of my clothes are also handed down from my older sister and brothers, too.”
At the end of the day, the main goal for fashion is usually an outlet to express oneself. Often times when you feel confident about how you look you feel better overall as well. It’s always interesting to hear why people choose to dress the way they do.
“My style makes me feel like I can express myself in clothes while still being comfortable. In school, for example, I like to be comfortable so I can focus in class but still look presentable. I think when I dress up I always feel more awake even at 8 am on a Monday. Overall, I see clothes as a way to express oneself and to experiment with new styles.”
