Spoilers Ahead!
Okay, let’s talk about WandaVision. If you’re a Marvel fan, you’ve probably been keeping up with it. The show takes place in the fictional Westview, New Jersey, and stars Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, and Kathryn Hahn.
Before COVID hit, I was not interested in watching superhero movies. They didn’t really appeal to me, especially as a person who doesn’t like action. However, my friend convinced me to start, since all of the movies were available for streaming, courtesy of Disney+. I ended up really liking them, and I became really excited to find out that my favorite character, Wanda Maximoff, was getting her own TV show!
The show came out weekly, every Friday starting on January 15th. On the original release day, 3 episodes came out, and the following weeks only one was released. Having to wait a week for new content was very reminiscent of my childhood, before streaming services released a whole season at once.
The show is focussed on Wanda and Vision, living their lives in some sort of TV land. Each episode takes place in a new decade, going from the 50s to the 2000s in classic sitcom format. However, there’s always a weird twist that happens in each episode. That being said, consider this your spoiler warning if you haven’t seen or finished WandaVision!
Okay, I loved this show. I think that a lot of traditional Marvel fans were upset about the fact that the show was different from what you’d normally see in a Marvel movie, but I think that’s what I liked about it. It felt so different, so plot heavy, yet so good. Every week I would be more and more confused until the finale.
Based on all the fan theories I saw on TikTok throughout the past 2 months, everyone thought that Mephisto, Marvel’s version of the devil, was going to end up being the main villain. Everyone also believed that nosy neighbor Agnes was Agatha Harkness based on her color scheme and name.
Though the Mephisto theory was wrong, I was actually glad that was the case. It was interesting to make Wanda, and at points Agatha, the villain of the show. It wasn’t just a show that introduced new plots into the MCU, it showed Wanda’s pain and how she dealt with it since Endgame. Her parents and twin brother, Pietro, died, and she had to watch her partner die in front of her twice.
Wanda creating this world is obvious. It shows her potential as a character and as the Scarlet Witch, her “newly” introduced character name. I use quotes because everyone knew this before, but Agatha was the first person in the MCU to call her by this name. Wanda being shown creating her own version of Westview, as well as Vision and her kids, out of thin air is just what we as an audience needed.
I don’t want to get too much into Evan Peters. I was so excited to see him, and I’m still mad about his character being solely based around a joke, essentially trolling the fans for a X-Men/MCU crossover.
Will Vision return? Will the twins return? What ends up happening with the multiverse? Hopefully all of my questions will be answered in the new Spiderman or Doctor Strange movies, which Elizabeth Olsen is set to star in.
