After 5 months of school, Senior Projects are now in full swing.
Senior Project is an elective where around 15 seniors chosen for the course design a project based on their passions and interests. This year, despite the pandemic, the class is still providing an opportunity for seniors to do independent work. Being in the class, I hope to feature some of the great work that my classmates are doing despite the challenges of this year.
Ana Dias is doing a project centered around Alzheimer’s awareness and prevention. She hopes to study the brain and neurological disorders in the future.
Despite the challenges that COVID-19 has posed for an in-person fundraiser, Ana is still working to raise money for Alzheimer’s prevention. Her charity of choice is the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund in Wellesley, a local non-profit focused on finding a cure for Alzheimer’s.
Another major part of her fundraiser is raising awareness about Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer’s is the 6th leading cause of death in the US and 1 in 3 seniors die from a form of dementia.
There are limitations to fundraising during COVID-19, though. In-person options are off the table and it’s hard to get the word out virtually. You can support Ana’s project by making purchase a shirt or blanket from her or by making a direct donation. But besides that, spread the word! Any support helps.
Make sure to follow Ana on Instagram @adseniorproject. If you want to buy an amazing t-shirt or blanket go to https://curealzheimer.itemorder.com/sale?read_message=true and if you want to make a direct donation visit https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/anas-senior-project-for-alzheimers-research1 .
The fundraiser ends March 13th, so be sure to order before then!
My own senior project, a travel blog, is also going live today. I’ve found that with COVID-19 and travel restrictions, I’ve had an opportunity to discover and photograph great new local places.
Even though I travel a lot around MA, making this website helped me appreciate all of the amazing places in my own backyard. It’s easy to take local travel for granted, but some of the most rewarding experiences happen less than an hour from home. Working on Hidden Gems MA has helped me discover some of my favorite places, and I hope that I can share them with you too.
So if you want to discover your new favorite place, make sure to check back every Friday for a new post. To stay updated, follow my Instagram and Facebook @hiddengemsma for new posts on your next favorite place. And to see my first post, go to https://hiddengemsma.wixsite.com/travel. Thank you so much for your support!
Throughout the next few months, stay posted for more features on senior projects.
