Have you ever gotten gum stuck in your hair?
Me too, and it was nearly impossible to get out. Imagine that, but instead of gum it was glue. Not just any glue, Gorilla Glue, which is industrial strength.
This is what happened to Tessica Brown. After running out of her usual hair setting spray, she saw a spray bottle of gorilla glue and figured that it would have the same affect. Oh Boy, was she wrong. Following the spraying of her hair, she was utterly unable to get her hair back to its natural state for a whole month.
To some, this may not seem like a big deal at first, but as a woman I am aware that severe damage to one’s hair is extremely distressing. After all, my mom did have to to cut the gum out of my hair.
She took to TikTok to ask for help and very quickly went viral throughout the country. In her video, she detailed that she had washed her hair 15 times and her hair still would not budge saying, “My hair, it don’t move. You hear what I’m telling you? It don’t move”. In the video she was scratching and knocking on her hair, it was rock solid.
People on TikTok reached out to Brown and were trying to come up with potential solutions, all in vain. She ended up needing to head to the hospital after Gorilla Glue (the company) reached out to her on twitter writing, “Hi there, we are sorry to learn about your experience! We do not recommend using our products in hair as they are considered permanent. You can try soaking the affected area in warm, soapy water or applying rubbing alcohol to the area”. Tessica did not appreciate this message in the slightest.
Several celebrities including Chance the Rapper voiced their sympathy for Brown on twitter saying “I’m glad mfs actually supporting her thru this. […] it was hard to laugh cause I could tell shorty genuinely didn’t know she had put one of the worlds most powerful adhesives in her sh*t”. Many were reaching out.
Doctors offered to remove the glue for free and people raised $16,000 for her on GoFundMe. Following this dramatic experience Tessica plans on suing Gorilla Glue for damages. Although I definitely sympathize with Tessica greatly, I don’t think that legal action will work out for her. With all due respect, not spraying Gorilla Glue in your hair is kind of common sense. I wish all the best for Tessica throughout her recovery!
