Next Wednesday, OA’s Peer Leaders are going to be talking to the freshman class during advisory. The group has been doing talks like these since their beginning, so here is a brief breakdown of the topics they will discuss.
It’s February, which means that it is Black History Month. They will be emphasizing that by talking about social issues and how they affect Black Americans. The group has a history of working with these types of issues, as they also worked on DJ Henry Day alongside Raising Multicultural Kids.
In addition to this, they will be discussing how school is going for the new class. It is obviously very challenging for them, as it is their first year of high school and they have to go through it during a pandemic.
Mental health seems to be the focal point for this talk, and the Peer Leaders want to address that there are always healthy ways to cope and people to talk to. The goal is to gain insight on how the students feel about their first year, and what they can do to help them feel better about their high school experience.
