With the election now only 14 days away, the focus has switched from the candidates to the voters. The Daily Olivian asked first time voters Braeden Kelly and Taylor Kodzis five questions about the election, and here are their responses:
Question: Are you casting your vote by mail or in person?
Braeden: I am voting in person.
Taylor: Mail
Question: How does it feel to be a first time voter?
Braeden: I’m excited to finally be able to vote and make a difference.
Taylor: It feels great. I am honestly very happy I get to vote this year and I believe every vote counts.
Question: What is the significance of voting in your eyes?
Braeden: Voting is very important for everyone to do because if you’re able to vote and choose not to then you have no say in what is going on in our country.
Taylor: The significance of voting is to give everyone a voice and a say in our government.
Question: How important would you say this election is?
Braeden: I think it’s a very important election and it could shape the future of our country.
Taylor: Very important. Right now there is so much controversy around our current president and everyone has such strong opinions towards each candidate, and I believe it is so important to vote and get your opinion across.
Question: What message would you give to other first time voters?
Braeden: Do some research and know who you’re voting for and what they support and do not support.
Taylor: Vote for who you want and who supports your beliefs. Don’t listen to other people’s opinions or just vote with the majority. Do your research and choose the candidate that best represents you.
