School is out for the year, and many events that would’ve staked place in person, like Spirit Week or Pep Rallies, have now been moved online.
Even though students can’t meet in person though, Student Council is still meeting to plan events for all students to enjoy at home. They’ve posted yearbook pictures of teachers and administrators and organized an at-home Spirit Week so far, but they still have some events planned for the rest of the year. I spoke to Mrs. Marani to hear about upcoming events and why they still planned activities when school was out.
Marani talked about some of the ways will try to get people involved in the school community in the next couple of weeks.
“We’ll be engaging the community to raise up the Class of 2020, hosting a faculty talent contest, and continuing our celebrations of Student Council Awards Night, Teacher Appreciation Week, and Seniors’ last day.“
But there are challenges with holding virtual events. Since all non-essential events and businesses are closed at the moment, most everything is held online, leading to a crowded field for online events and meeting. Although not all students would participate in these activities, Student Council still works hard to get the school community involved. Mrs. Marani spoke more on how they addressed these challenges.
“We are just hoping that our students see how much we love and miss them. Some events will be successful; others will not. We are used to navigating that even when we are all in school, so we see that challenge similarly now I think. We hope that if we have enough different events or offerings, kids can choose something that works for them!”
Even though we are not together in person, Student Council is still working to connect us in these uncertain times.
