The COVID-19 pandemic has been unprecedented in the fact that many institutions have never encountered something as personally invasive as this virus. However, in attempts to lessen the impact of this virus on the academic year for OAHS students, April Break has been removed by the School Committee in order to have students participate in as much remote-learning as possible in order to maintain the school environment. This means that from the 20th to the 24th students can be assigned work from their teachers and will be part of the participation “grading” system. However, the school will be honoring Patriots Day on April 20th so there will be no work assigned on that day.
The administration has also pushed out the last day for seniors until May 29th. This time will be centered around giving Seniors their senior events like Field Day and Day of Kindness to keep the tradition of fun events.
Lastly, the Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education has declared that will be no MCAS tests held this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are pleased that students and educators will not be responsible for MCAS testing this year under the current circumstances. As soon as we receive more information regarding the competency determination, we will share that with you,” Superintendent Cabral said in a letter to staff and families.
