Tom Brady is the greatest football player of all time. Spending the last twenty seasons with the New England Patriots, Brady and the Patriots have broken records and won world championships. They dominated not only their division, but the entire league. The legacy born from this dynasty during the past two decades will be remembered until the end of time. With all of this in mind, it was heartbreaking for patriots fans to hear that Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this off-season.
Coming into the 2020 NFL off-season, Tom Brady was entering as a free agent. I honestly believed he would return to the Patriots because he would not want to risk his legacy being damaged in any way by being disloyal. In reality, this situation is more similar to Michael Jordan on the Wizards than Kevin Durant joining the Warriors. Although us Patriots fans are hurt by Brady’s departure, we should spend our energy appreciating everything he has done for us instead of turning him into the enemy.
Patriots super fan, Rory McLaughlin, explains how he feels about the recent departure of Tom Brady. “I’m going to college in the fall and I’ve never seen a Patriots team that did not have Tom Brady. Seeing him on the field has been a constant in my life. I hope he goes and lights it up in Tampa.”
Brady’s departure from the patriots was inevitable but I would rather it have been due to retirement. As we wish him the best in Tampa, the Patriots need to find a replacement. It looks like the backup, Jarrett Stidham, could be the starting QB for the next season unless a new quarterback is signed in free agency. Personally, I like Stidham as the starter after an impressive preseason stat line of 731 passing yards and 4 touchdowns. I say we give him a chance, just like the Patriots gave Brady a chance in 01’ when Bledsoe got hurt.
