My daughters are both Lego-heads, one more so than the other. We stumbled upon Lego Masters by accident and DVR’d the series. I have to admit, it’s been a pleasant surprise, even for the non-Lego obsessed dad.
Each episode pits the 10 teams (and shrinking) against each other in epic Lego builds like designing a theme park or building the other half of a random object. The teams typically have 12 or more hours to design and build. At their disposal is a massive Lego supply: every shape and color of brick and minifigure.
The teams of two are all adults. But their building and design experience is amazing. The stuff they create is amazing, complex, and beautiful. The show is also packed with Lego build and design tips offered by two Lego designers who serve as judges.
Host Will Arnett, a key voice in the Lego movie, is actually pretty funny and self-deprecating. He knows the audience will include lots of kids, so he’s dramatic and playful.
After each episode finishes, my girls run into the playroom and start monkeying around with random designs. So dust off those old Lego kits and plop in front of the screen for some quick inspiration. Or just enjoy the creative imagination on display.
Lego Masters, Wednesday, 9 p.m. on FOX or On Demand.
