Oliver Ames High School will remain closed through April 7 after Gov. Baker made the decision Sunday.
This extends Easton’s previously announced self-closure by another 8 days.
The new rules, which also close all restaurants to eat-in dining and ban any gatherings of more than 25 people, will also throw the Spring sport’s season into turmoil. Already, the school’s musical, “Mamma Mia,” scheduled to take place this past weekend, was postponed.
“It doesn’t make me feel panicked because of what other countries have experienced, to flatten the rate at which people are being infected, and schools are a big part of that,” said science teacher Helen van Riel.
“I haven’t seen anything quite like this in my lifetime. I would say that I am not panicked, but seriously concerned about how this whole situation may play out,” said Joseph William Abarr, a history teacher.
“I personally would not like the school to be canceled as I feel like I would be behind in my senior year and college, but I understand that it’s for the safety of everyone and to stop the spread of the coronavirus and I believe it is the right move to prevent people from being sick,” said Emma Varella, a junior.
