On March 11, the newest season of Netflix’s On My Block was ready for streaming. The show was first released in March of 2018. It takes place in the fictional area of Freeridge, Los Angeles, CA. There are four main characters, and the show started on their first day of high school. The show tackles serious issues for inner-city kids, specifically racial discrimination and gang fighting.
Many people, including some of my friends and myself, have been very excited about the release of the newest season. Currently, I am almost halfway through the show, so I won’t give any spoilers away for my friends who have not yet seen it. So far I love it, I’ve loved all of the characters thus far, and I don’t expect that to change. I enjoy how this show has a lot of representation that we don’t usually see in Hollywood, such as topics that people go through that a lot of people can’t begin to understand, like gangs, losing friends, and living in poor urban areas.
I enjoyed the first two seasons, more than I initially expected to.
I enjoy the romance and the conflict, the parts of the show that people can relate to. There is also so much diversity in this show that you won’t really find, which is totally refreshing. I really recommend On My Block to high school students who feel like they can handle some raunchy comedy and violence. Some scenes are somber, and some make you very happy for the characters. The show is chaotic but in an excellent way.
