Science teacher Kyle Sousa has been named the new Oliver Ames Spring Track and Field Girls Head Coach.
Principal Wes Paul and Athletic Director Bill Matthews made the announcement last week after long-time head coach and history teacher Mike Darling announced earlier this year that he was stepping down.
“Coach Sousa instills a value system that is really unparalleled in any other sports that we have. Those values and culture are really the core of what we’re trying to achieve at Oliver Ames,” Matthews said.
Sousa, also the head coach of the Cross Country and Winter Track teams, competed against assistant coach and history teacher Brian Gotsell for the spring job.
“I’m excited to be getting started as the track coach. The track program has a strong legacy and I am excited to continue it,” Sousa said.
“Obviously I’m sad I didn’t get the job, but I wish Coach Sousa and the rest of the team good luck,” Gotsell said.
