This month, parents Lori and Dave Palazzi form Taunton, MA spoke about their son, Cory’s, overdose. Unlike other similar Common Plannings, Cory, thankfully, survived and was able to come out and share his story.
Cory was a baseball and football player and based his whole life around the fact that he was an athlete. Unfortunately, he hurt his shoulder and was unable to play sports. He then got addicted to his prescription opiates and went in and out of rehab 13 times before overdosing and almost dying.
This presentation was extremely similar to other Common Plannings we’ve had about drugs and overdose. The biggest difference was that the survivor could actually come out and speak. Cory was witty and drew many laughs from the crowd, and was inspirational in his message of never using drugs and making the right choices. That being said, the drug-related Common Plannings really should stay at one per year. It is an important topic, but if you hear about it enough, you become disinterested in the same message over and over.
