Colin Kaepernick made headlines for kneeling during the national anthem before NFL games in protest against police brutality and inequality in the US. Lots of people agreed with him, along with a lot of people disagreeing with him. President Donald Trump stated that the NFL should fire him, which they did not, but once he became a free agent soon after, no team signed him again.
More than a year later, the NFL was hit with a grievance from Kap, accusing the NFL and its owners of colluding to keep him from playing again. He came to a confidential settlement with the NFL and withdrew his grievance.
Months later, over this past weekend, he participated in a workout with a bunch of teams in hopes of getting signed again.
But my question is, what is his goal now?
In the beginning, he openly spoke out about how owners in the NFL were racist, and how he was ashamed to work for the organization that represents that. But why is he trying so hard to come back to an organization that was “so horrible” to him? Money. That’s why.
This is no longer about racial injustice in the US, and even if it is, what does kneeling do to that? How is kneeling going to change the injustice in the world? All it does is give him more attention, which equals more money.
Along with that, Colin was quite busy not playing for the NFL and always made his way into the limelight to collect some PR checks. He made Nike 3 billion dollars in record time, so there’s no doubt in my mind he got money from that situation.
All in all, I’m sorry, Kap, but instead of whining about how racist the NFL is but also begging to play again, try making some change.
Me? Not a fan.
