Coming off a 10-12 record from the previous season, the captains, Ryan Burkett, Owen Friel, and Jay Spillane, plan to lead the team to new heights and unknown endeavors, alongside the junior star athlete, Amari Brown.
With tryouts currently in session, the final roster is still in question. The same can not be said for the potential starting lineup. Brother of OA basketball legend, Jack Spillane, Jay Spillane, desires to solidify the Spillane name in Oliver Ames by giving it his all until the final whistle.
One of the captains, Ryan Burkett, has been playing basketball since the age of four. His hard work and confidence in not only himself but his team can push this team into prosperity.
“I’m very optimistic about this upcoming season. The key players returning from last year, combined with talented juniors, is a perfect recipe for success. The first goal is for the team to compete for the Kelley Rex title. Secondly, we want to go deep into the playoffs and make it to the state championship game.”
The third captain, Owen Friel, has a fire burning inside of him. His competitiveness pushes him to give his best day in and day out.
“I’ve never been more confident. We’re for sure making the playoffs. We have a lot of weapons on our squad. And I am ready for Mansfield and Attleboro… I’m coming for Chris Edgehill.”
Amari Brown transferred to Oliver Ames last year, but his talent was quickly noticed as he played vital minutes for varsity as a sophomore. His captains have nothing but good things to say about his skill and mindset, on and off the court, and Amari has confidence in the rest of the team as well.
“We’re going to have a really good season because we have a lot more experience, and we have good captains to lead us. Winning is what matters, so I plan to do what I can to help my team win and make it to the state championship.”
On December 20, 2019, the Oliver Ames Tigers have their home opener at 6:30 against North Attleboro.
