On November 22nd, a sequel to the record-breaking Frozen was released. The movie starts like the first, with a flashback into the main character’s childhood. Over time, the movie moves into the present-day and the problems that come in their world.
As anticipated, Frozen II was a box office hit. It has made over $300 million worldwide, $127 million from the United States alone, and has broken the record for the highest-grossing animated film for opening weekend. This movie had beat other major films, like Incredibles 2, The Lion King, and even the original Frozen. The film was the largest opening for any Disney release in its 96 years of creating animation.
After seeing the movie this past week, I can say it was pretty good. I went with a friend who definitely did not enjoy it as much as I did, but the movie might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Some of the songs were questionable, but I can understand why children would like it. It contained mostly childlike humor and “loving your family” messages, as it was intended for kids, but there were also a few sad moments, which is what you get with an average Disney movie. Is it odd for a teenager to be reviewing a kid’s movie? Well, I think that movies made for children, especially a remake of one of the most popular animations of our lifetime, should have something for everyone (especially for those who made the movie as big as it was). This movie, like I said, is questionable. There were parts that had me laughing in the theater that I’m about 99% sure were not meant to be funny, but the way it looked or sounded was just genuinely comical. Now, if I were about 8 years younger, I would most likely be obsessed with this movie. The intended audience was kids, so kids will tend to like it more than adults.
Obviously, this is all my opinion, and therefore subjective. If you enjoyed the first Frozen, there is a chance you will like the sequel. The powerful voice of Idina Menzel is a force to be reckoned with, and I think that made the movie so much better. If you aren’t one for music or for stereotypical Disney movies, maybe skip this one and see something else.
