Oliver Ames fall athletics continued its dominance in the Hockomock league this past week with Volleyball and Boys Cross Country winning the Kelly-Rex championship.
Cross Country edged second place King Phillip with a score of 66, as the top five runners finished 5th, 11th, 13th, 17th, and 20th. Oliver Ames’ top runner was Kyle Sarney, who posted a time of 16:08.98, followed by captain Rory McLoughlin who finished with a time of 16:42.94. McLoughlin was proud of the achievement, crediting it to the team’s hard work: “It takes more than one or two fast kids to win a team title, and we’ve had a roster that has put been putting in unmatched levels of commitment to get to this.” He is optimistic about the upcoming championship run, adding that the state title is “calling our names”.
Volleyball clinched a three-way tie for first place in the Kelly Rex division with Franklin and King Phillip. The first place finish comes after a 3-1 victory over King Phillip in a must-win match. The team has only lost three games against Brockton, King Phillip, and Franklin, finishing the season 13-3 in the Kelly Rex. Captain Allie Kemp described the moment as “special” because it is the first time OA Volleyball has ever won their division. They find out their match up in the first playoff round later this week, and will be looking to make a deep playoff run to compete for the state title.
