Friday, October 11th, 2019, was an important day for Harry Styles fans worldwide. With the release of his latest single Lights Up, Twitter and Instagram have gone wild. The song debuted at number one on the charts, and the music video has over 20 million views. Since the release of his first self-titled album, there has been plenty of buildup for his second record, which fans have dubbed “HS2”.
If anyone is familiar with the famous (ex) British-Irish boyband One Direction, you know Harry Styles. He was considered to be the “frontman” of the band, and no one could ever miss his curly locks. Since the split of One Direction after their final album Made In the A.M., all of the band members have gone their separate ways, creating their own music and going on their own tours. Harry Styles, as well as bandmate Niall Horan, have made their way to TD Garden in Boston and Xfinity Center in Mansfield, both being sold out or nearly sold-out shows.
Even though One Direction is over, Harry Styles’ influence in the public eye still remains. He has done campaigns for Gucci in the past and, more recently, has had a second article with magazine Rolling Stone. Though he has a massive following on every social media platform, he became less and less active after the hiatus of One Direction. During his tour for his first album, he showed his support for issues like Black Lives Matter and the LGBTQ+ community, which furthered his fanbase and success. He also has started his own campaign, called Treat People With Kindness (TPWK), and after every show of his tour, his campaign donated a portion of his sales to a local charity.
Many would argue that Harry Styles is just another churned out popstar, but it seems to be quite the opposite. With his support of controversial issues, overall generosity, and genuine kindness, I don’t think we’ll see Harry Styles fade from the limelight anytime soon.
