Senior football player Harrison Webster suffered a serious season-ending injury during Saturday’s loss against Taunton.
“I have constant pain on my right side where I got hit and when I breathe,” Webster said from home on Tuesday. He says he is feeling better since the hit. Webster is hoping to be only out of school for this week.
At first, teammate, Nick Marks thought, “Wow, how did he shake that hit off and continue to run? Then, when players where crowding him with assistance I knew it was serious.” Webster, who plays tight end, caught a 20 yard pass. After a quick turn he faced a hard hit to the side of his body. He shook it off and carried on with with ball before getting tackled yet again.
Webster was removed from the field and taken to the hospital.
“My right kidney was dissected, meaning my kidney isn’t getting any blood. After the CAT scan they discovered that I have two renal arteries and my second one was not injured,” he said. With ⅓ of his right kidney still getting blood, Webster did not need a transplant. The kidney may be able to heal itself over time.
