As we are in the full swing of OA fall sports, all of the teams have been affected by one big problem, EEE. The sports staff and athletes have been forced to end practices early, as well as change our night games to early evening games. I asked Mr. Matthews what he had to say regarding the schedule changes “it has blown everything up” according to the athletic director. Every practice and game had to be changed from the already set schedule. The team with the most inconvenience from this situation is certainly football. Football games have been consistently moved to the early afternoon on Saturdays in response to the threat of EEE.
Many of our student-athletes are not informed about the rules of this serious situation. As we sink deeper into fall, our nights get shorter. All team curfews were at 7:30 P.M., then 7:00 P.M., when October hits, our sports will be forced to be done by 6 P.M.
Mr. Matthews described what is required for this disaster of a schedule change to be reverted. A “hard freeze”, which is a three hour or longer period of 28℉ or lower in temperature, is necessary. We are hoping for this freeze soon.
