The Oliver Ames high school fall sports consist of many competitive programs. The sports include football, boy’s soccer, girl’s soccer, golf, volleyball, cross country, and field hockey. Each sport has their respective best players, which makes it difficult to choose who should be the OA player of the week, but there was a specific athlete that stood out from the others this week. Striker, Erin Holmberg of girls soccer is this week’s OA Player of the Week.
Erin Holmberg is one of three captains for the girl’s varsity soccer team. She has been playing soccer since she was four years old, and her skills continue to improve every year. Erin has come out very strong, scoring seven goals in the first five games of the season, leading her team to an early 5-0 record. She hopes to keep this momentum going, but refuses to take all the credit for the impressive start. The main goal is to “keep the team focused,” Erin stated in reply to how she plans to keep the undefeated season alive.
