In the case that you were wondering, or were still on the fence, I’m here to announce that spring has definitely arrived. The birds are singing, the trees are blossoming, the flowers are growing, the spring sports people are spring sportsing, and the heavens have been opening up and pouring rain – often. I recently overheard a sophisticated weather conversation in one of my classes. It went something like this:
“It’s supposed to rain tomorrow.”
“Seriously? It’s been raining all the time!”
“I know. It practically rained for all of April.”
“Well, April showers bring May flowers.”
Alright, so maybe it wasn’t really a sophisticated weather conversation – or even a conversation at all, now that I see it’s only four lines of unremarkable dialogue – but I made my point. It’s been raining. A lot.
Honestly, I don’t quite mind rain. I used to live in Asia where it would rain really, really hard, once a day, every day, for all of what was creatively called “rainy season.” I loved it – the rain beat down hard enough that if you went outside you got a head massage from the sky.
So, in comparison, rain here in Easton, MA doesn’t seem too bad at all. The worst part is the not sunny part, but I can deal with grey clouds for a bit if it means that plants will grow and all the other happy parts of spring keep springing.
It’s remarkable how cheerful a colorful bunch of flowers can look in the spring – even dandelions. There are a whole bunch of giant dandelions growing to the left of the OA atrium entrance when you’re on your way into the building. Try to remember to look for them next time you’re there. Oh, and one more thing: go pack an umbrella, there’s a chance of rain tomorrow.
