Olivia Piazza, co-captain of the girl’s lacrosse team, is this week’s student-athlete of the week. She has been a huge part of the team all season long, but this week in particular she showed off her talent. In just 10 games she has racked up 39 goals and 27 assists, 13 of those goals coming against just Attleboro and Canton. Although the team has been somewhat underwhelming as a whole so far this season, Olivia certainly doesn’t deserve the blame.
They are only 4-6 right now (4th in the Kelley-Rex division), but have been looking better and better recently. Olivia described their recent win over Canton as “the best game overall as a team” and they are looking to bring this momentum into this week, looking to take down Franklin, Milford, and Ursuline. She knows they have the talent to do this, telling me “Every game we are getting better as a whole and we have a lot of potential to end the season strong.”
With just 8 games left in the season, the girls will have to start picking it up soon. For most of the seniors on the team, it is the last 8 games they will ever play, so you know they’re going to leave it all out on the field. However, after this season Olivia won’t be done yet. Next year she’ll be off too Merrimack where she will continue playing lacrosse as a defender. Even though she has moore lacrosse to look forward after this season, she is still focused on doing as well as possible at OA. “I’m excited for our game against Sharon because they have always been a rival of ours and this will finally be our chance to beat them.”
The rest of the season should be an exciting, unforgettable one for the Tigers, and especially seniors, so help make it even more memorable and come out to some of the big games!
