Editor’s Note- this was written as the collective viewpoint of the Editorial Staff.
Senior Assassin, or some version of it, is a tradition which is commonly found in any high school in America. However, that doesn’t make it worthwhile.
If you’re a senior, you’ve spent the past four years drinking from the water fountains, getting help from teachers after school, breaking the soap dispensers, leaving food on the floor in the cafeteria, breaking a a myriad of rules, and getting into dramatic arguments with your peers over everything from homework to relationships- all of which the school administration and teachers have had to deal with as part of their daily life.
Yet by participating in Senior Assassin, we confirm our egotistical, self-centered beliefs that once again, we can take from the community and school by shooting each other with water guns regardless of if we are trespassing on neighbors property or getting into car accidents which spend public funds to clean up, (remember last year?).
No one is saying the more than 100 seniors participating for the $1500 should not have fun. However, if you don’t want to end your senior years in a blazing conflagration of selfishness, focus on giving back to the school. Take that change jar on your dresser, count up the quarters (cash would be better), and give them to your favorite department in the school.
Use your final days to give back to those who have had to put up with us, instead of taking more.
Sincerely,
The Editorial Staff
