As the 2019 school year is winding down, many of the seniors are thinking about scholarships, the college acceptance process, and what to expect after graduation. This year, three new scholarships are presenting themselves for application The Christine Lober Memorial Scholarship, Robotics Team Scholarship, and the Michael F. Maguire Memorial Scholarship.
“Attack it from the angle of why you want to go into your field of interest,” said Mrs. Duggan, a secretary and administrator in the guidance office. “Tell a personal story and be genuine.”
Below is the description of the new scholarships.
THE CHRISTINE M. LOEBER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Christine M. Loeber was a 1987 graduate of Oliver Ames High School, where she played soccer and basketball, and was known for her friendly personality, concern for others and beautiful smile. After completing undergraduate studies at the University of New Hampshire, Christine earned her Master’s in Social Work from Boston College, and devoted herself to serving veterans with PTSD. The Christine M. Loeber Memorial Scholarship was created to commemorate and honor Christine’s joyful, generous spirit and dedication to the less fortunate. This scholarship, in the amount of $2,000, will be awarded each spring to an Oliver Ames High School Senior who has exhibited extraordinary efforts to promote kindness, compassion, patience, equality, generosity, and integrity. In selecting recipients, the CML Foundation OA Scholarship Committee will also consider involvement in OA sports and other activities, financial need, academic merit, recommendation from an OA teacher, coach or guidance counselor, and answers to the short response questions. Special consideration will be given to those pursuing a future in the Social Work or Human Services fields. If you are awarded the scholarship and later change your post-graduation plans, you must contact the Committee with your change of plans as soon as possible. All recipients should plan to attend/volunteer at a CML Foundation event within the next 12 months if at all possible.
