Gabi Mclaughlin, a senior on the winter track team, is the student-athlete of the week this week. She is the field captain for the girls team and had a stunning year, making it all the way to all-states where she placed 2nd in highjump! Gabi is an all around star, competing in high jump, long jump, and the 4×4 relay.
The year is now over for Gabi and the rest of the winter track team but she felt as though she ended on a good note, and is looking forward to spring track. She told me “I am satisfied with how I did, but I know I can do better and will try to improve for the spring season.”
Although her name pops up a lot due to her amazing track skills, don’t be fooled. She is well-rounded both in sports and in school. Gabi was a key factor in the girls soccer team’s success over the last 4 years and is a true competitor. Going into her last sports season in high school this spring, you better expect a lot from her because she WILL show up to play.
In addition to being a leader of several OA sports teams, you will always find her at some club after school. She participates in a wide array of extracurriculars, including DECA, where she just recently has made it to internationals in Florida.
Gabi has an extremely bright future, and will be deciding where that future starts very soon. She still has not decided on what college is right for her but will be majoring in some sort of business. There’s no doubt you will see her name many more times this year, as she tends to go 100% in nearly everything she does.
