This year, in addition to the core Art program, there will be new courses offered to anyone interested in expanding their knowledge of art and want to take additional art classes.
Sculpture 2 and Graphic Design 2 are prerequisite courses that require Graphic Design 1 and Sculpture 1. Both are half year courses that run the same block.
Sculpture 2 is a continuation of Sculpture 1. In it, you will learn about Assemblage, Found Objects, Installation /Public Art, Wheel Throwing, Hand Building and Construction Techniques and further refine skills in objective of this course is to fine tune skills for students who have achieved a level of technical competence in Sculpture 1. Emphasis will be placed on developing skills in personal expression, conceptual exploration, and aesthetic value in relation to various sculptural media and techniques. The elements and principles of design will be utilized in creating non-functional and functional three-dimensional art forms from a variety of materials.
Graphic Design 2 can be taken in addition to Sculpture 2, or with another half year course. It will focus and expand upon previous skills such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as exploration of the history of typography and graphic design. The class will involve expanding upon the skills of Design Fundamentals, Image Manipulation, Typography, Graphic Design Illustration and Practical Design Application. Both Sculpture 2 and Graphic Design 2 are dependent on the amount of students that sign up and are taught by Mrs. Sapienza-Hunt.
Digital Imaging and Ceramics are potential half year classes that will run opposite to each other, just like Graphic Design 2 and Sculpture 2.
Digital Imaging focuses on photography as fine art and learning about functions on the digital camera and how to enhance photos using Photoshop. Students can learn the principles of design through photography and how to use photography as fine art.
Ceramics will focus on construction methods, surface decoration and glazing techniques through a series of projects that are designed to discover the creative capabilities of clay.
Mrs. Shea, the head of the art department, has advice to anyone wishing to take these additional art courses.
