Editor’s Note: We spend five minutes each week with a member of the OA community. Below are highlights of that free-form conversation.
I spent 5 minutes speaking with Ashlyn Butler and came to discover lots about not only her future plans and current endeavors, but even learned about myself in the process of speaking with her for just 5 minutes
.Q: Hows senior year going?
Its been good not too stressful
Q: Get into any colleges?
Yes! I am going to Bridgewater State because I am commuting since my mom got me a new puppy.
Q: Aww what is the puppy like?
I have two boy dogs and two girl dogs. And its really cool to see how they act differently due to their gender. Like when it’s cold out, the boy dogs will immediately run outside but we literally have to drag the girls out. So there definitely is a difference between the genders, its interesting to see. And I’ve noticed it isn’t just the breed, because one boy dog and one girl dog are both maltese’s and they act differently also.
Q: Are there any other interesting pieces of info about dog ownership?
Dogs are emotional creatures for example, they can cry.
Ashlyn was very enthusiastic about her puppy and I walked away with a new knowledge of how even dogs can express emotion in certain mannerisms like crying. I had never really sat with someone and discussed dogs, mostly because I am afraid of dogs and have little interest in them. But when Ashlyn talked to me about dogs and other animals I could sense her passion in the subject, therefore my own interest was caught as well.
Ashlyn went on to tell me her preferred field of interest and what she plans on studying in college as well as throughout her life.
