Winter is approaching, meaning that Oliver Ames basketball is upon us once again. It’s the best time of the year by far. Personally, I have been waiting for this for a while as the girls basketball teams have a lot of hype around them this year. This year’s girls basketball team really has some potential to make a deep playoff run this year. They have talent in all 5 positions with experience to guide them to a great year. Led by captains Alex Sheldon and Meg Holleran, this team will be a force in the hock this year.
Coming off a somewhat disappointing season in which they lost in the second round, the lady tigers are ready to come out and attack this year.
Sadie Homer, a senior at Oliver Ames, says “we are going to be a fun team to watch and a difficult team to play,” adding that she believes they will end the season with a record well over .500.
This team is confident and have a reason to be. They are tall, athletic, and are able to run the floor unlike last year’s team. They will be a TOUGH defensive team and one that will push the ball every time they have the chance. If they can limit the turnovers, they will be a top team in the hock.
Basketball is a team game, and although they have experience, they will need an effort from everybody. Sadie stressed this, telling me “in order to succeed we need everyone to contribute something” which should be no problem for them. They are committed to winning a championship, and as a group will stop at nothing less.
The season starts soon, so be there Tuesday, December 11th at Stoughton High to support the Tigers and help them to their first win!
