At last, November is at an end! Fall sports are coming to a close, but winter sports are soon to begin. We’ve made it through our first term and almost through our second. The school year is getting extremely busy, and the material is becoming more complex each day. Let’s be positive, and think about the great holidays, school vacations, and snow days to come!
I’m sure that everyone is familiar with some of the different clubs here at OA… we do receive the same daily email about them. Some of you may pay no mind to these daily club announcements, but I encourage you to look deeper into them. I know how hard it is to make it to club meetings while you have other commitments, but clubs are always looking for new members. Even if you weren’t at the first few meetings, but still want to join, talk to the teacher and they will understand. If you were busy with a fall sport, and didn’t have time to join any clubs, join them now! Why miss an opportunity to be a part of something for the whole year just because you were busy for the first couple months? If you can’t explain this to a teacher after school, go during advisory or send them an email.
There are so many clubs at OA that offer all different types of things. Some clubs require little commitment, and some are very challenging and take effort. No matter what club you are thinking about, it’s bound to be interesting and exciting. Clubs aren’t just for college resumes, as they are a great way to meet new people or learn more about something you’re interested in. Some clubs can even help students realize the type of career that suits them best or what might interest them when choosing a major in college.
You don’t need friends to join a club because the teachers and other students in the clubs are all very welcoming. If you’re passionate about a cause or enjoy doing a certain activity, don’t let anything stop you from joining that club. You have nothing to lose, and teachers will always be there to help you with involvement. Why not try out a meeting? They’re usually right after school and don’t last more than 20 minutes. You will never be forced into something, and it’s okay if you realize that a club isn’t for you. What matters is opening yourself up to new ideas, stepping out on a ledge, and giving clubs a try. It’s never too late, and whichever club you try, I might be in it! I would love to meet you!
