For over two months, the Oliver Ames Drama Club has been busy rehearsing for their upcoming performance of Cash on Delivery. The play, a British farce by Michael Cooney, is set entirely in one room of a house, but it’s full of interesting (and often idiotic) characters in ridiculous situations.
In the play, Eric Swan (played by Kameron Burton) is tied up in his scheme to defraud the social security system in order to get lots of cash – hence the name of the play. Instead of going smoothly, though, his plan starts falling apart when his lodger, Norman Ross (Alex Roginskiy) finds out about it and different government workers start showing up at his house. Desperate to keep the scheme working and hidden from his wife Linda (Grace Weintrob), Eric convinces Norman and his Uncle George (Andrew Sadow) to help him out.
The resulting chaos that fills the rest of the play is full of puns, slapstick humor, and lots of laughter. With lines like “Stop that corpse!” and “Mrs. Ross eats the wallpaper if they don’t lock her up-” the play is jam-packed with entertainment.
The cast, crew, and director, Mr. Huberman, are excited for the show, which will be in the OA auditorium this Friday and Saturday at 7:00 pm and Sunday at 2:00 pm. At a recent rehearsal, Mr. Huberman addressed the cast and crew by saying, “You have a show,” and everybody cheered. As the performance dates approach, with energy and excitement building backstage, the Drama Club is working hard to bring the audience a fantastic show that will be plenty of fun.
Christina Beatty, a junior in the show who plays Sally Chessington, said that the reason she is so excited for this show is the way the group really works together to put on the performance.
“It’s different from the musical,” she explained, because the nature of a small group of kids gives the play a different energy.
Tickets will be sold at the door, priced $10 for students, $15 for adults. The Drama Club hopes to see you there!
