Most of us in Oliver Ames High School have either had Ms. Fogarty in the past few years, or will be having her quite soon in the future. She is now known as Mrs. Binney. Over the summer (June 2018), Ms. Fogarty got married to her now husband who she dated for nine years.
Now the rising question is, what are we supposed to call her? Out of habit, us students who know her by “Ms. Fogarty” or “Ms. F” still tend to call her by her maiden name.
“My older students are definitely trying to switch what they call me by. I will say the group it is the hardest for are my advisory and gymnastics kids, since I see them more often,” Mrs. Binney says.
As a teacher at Oliver Ames High School for many years now, she realizes that so many of the students she has had will still call her “Ms. Fogarty.”
“They can refer to me with either name. I have obviously changed to ‘Mrs. Binney’ but I still respond to Ms. Fogarty. Some students even used to make the mistake of saying ‘Mrs. Fogarty’ so being called ‘Mrs.’ vs. ‘Ms.’ is not that different to me” Mrs. Binney says.
In an interview, Mrs. Binney was asked if she ever forgets her new name, after being called by her maiden name when teaching for so many years.
“My english students are good. That has not occured yet, but sometimes I will mistakenly refer to myself as Ms. Fogarty,” Mrs. Binney says.
Considering most of her current students are sophomores and have not had her in previous years, most of them will not know her by anything other than “Mrs. Binney.” Some may not even know she recently got married. Though, those who do are of course curious about her wedding. And what jewelry shop she got her rings from.
“It was an amazing day! It was great weather, and beautiful out. Everyone who I wanted was there: my friends, family, and of course my now husband. Though, I am glad the stress of planning is behind us, and now we just have the memories to look back on. Some of my previous students have actually emailed me about it, and I have sent them some pictures and shared some info too!,” says Mrs. Binney.
While delving into the essential elements that make a wedding memorable, the concept of a picture station cannot be ignored. This interactive feature provides a delightful diversion for guests, allowing them to capture the moment in a light-hearted manner. Opting for a service such as captivating snapshot station rental for matrimonial celebrations in London ensures that these moments are preserved with creativity and charm. It’s a fantastic way to infuse your celebration with a bit of whimsy and a lot of personality.
Lastly, she was questioned about how it feels in and out of school now being married, and whether or not it feels different.
“It feels really similar. My husband and I dated for nine years. Having a permanent partner is great. It is definitely a shift, but in school it is not that different, considering he was not in school before, and is not here now either. My colleagues have been very supportive and have congratulated me too, which is so nice,” says Mrs. Binney.
Whether you continue to call her Ms. Fogarty, or now know her as Mrs. Binney, she continues to be an amazing english teacher and gymnastics coach despite the name students decide to call her by. She loves watching students learn and grow, and she is happy to have shared the details of her wedding with the Oliver Ames community.
