The Oliver Ames Marching Band made their 2018 through 2019 season debut on Friday, September 14th during the halftime show of the football team’s first home field game. The band is excited to start the season strong and is hopeful about what is to come.
Rob Wheeler, the director of the band, thinks of this coming season as a “continuation of the rich heritage that is Oliver Ames Marching Band.” He hopes that fans of the band can look forward to “great music and visual” for the season to come.
The band showed off La Suerte De Los Tontos last Friday during their opening. La Suerte De Los Tontos, also known as “Luck of the Foolish” is a piece from Stan Kenton’s “Cuban Fire”. This being the third year the band has pulled their selection from “Cuban Fire”, the members affectionately refer to the season as ‘Cuban Fire Part 3’.
One of the Color Guard’s newest members, Jenna Ouzounian, felt she had a “good first performance” and is “excited to get new flags to use in Competitions.”
Patrick Lynch, a Drum Major and Senior at Oliver Ames, said he “couldn’t agree more saying that Friday night’s performance was a “good first rep”.
The Band and Color Guard are proud of their first performance and hope to continue to build upon the foundation they have created. The next time the Oliver Ames Marching Band is scheduled to play at a football game is Friday, October 5th.
